First things first: Creole food is amazing. Disney got it right for once: I'm pretty sure a girl could 'catch' me with beignets; if I could, I would totally stay here for the food. But my partner, family, and friends wouldn't approve, so I think I need to grab a cook book before we leave.
Carnival season's already started here, but Mardi Gras is so late this year that it's still too early for parades, and the balls are invite only, so our Mardi Gras celebration was just going to Mardi Gras World, getting Mum some Mardi Gras themed Christmas decorations, and eating King cakes.
But even without Mardi Gras, we're having fun. It's a fascinating city with some great live music to match the good food and some fantastic nightlife. They're not as tough on the drinking age here!
I know I'm Australian and have been living in Florida all year, but New York was so cold. I was starting to think that how hot it was when we went there in summer was my imagination. (Or I just need some decent winter clothes. Never thought I'd need any in Florida so I didn't bring them... Good thing I don't need them here in New Orleans.)
Pukamon, lucky blubbered bastard, loved it, and kept trying to put slushballs down my back. I have no idea how I'm going to survive Vancouver.
It was awesome getting some of the nightlife this time, though; we only did a daytrip in the summer. Times Square and Broadway at night looked amazing. And Pukamon has become better at navigating the subway than me, which is a bit of a worry.
California, here we come, right back where we started from. (Hey, LAX counts as a start.)
(OOC: New Yorkers, anyone interested in backdating or handwaving anything?)
