Who: Wallace, Ash, and Pukamon
What: Being tourists!
Where: Around Minato - the train station, a train, and the rugby stadium
When: Sometime towards the end of October but before Halloween/Ash's birthday - we only just finished this week :3

This just wasn't Ash's day. Finally, that project was handed in; finally, a chance to hang out with someone who spoke fluent English; finally, a chance to get out of Shinjuku without Meg... Then of course Pukamon just had to come along. It wasn't that Ash minded hanging out with his partner - much - but he did mind the stares that came with it. Bad enough that he was blatantly a foreigner, but did he have to be a foreign teenager with a stuffed animal supposedly velcroed to his shoulder as well?

At least he wasn't lost. He'd made it to Minato Station without major incident. If "discovering your school bag had been so heavy all day because your Digimon had stowed away inside it" didn't fall under your definition of "major". And, at a total guess, he'd found Wallace. If that blonde guy over there wasn't a random tourist, or an exchange student through a different organization. It was possible, but Ash wasn't willing to think about the other possibilities. Just in case, he checked his digivice - yup, there was a flashing dot in the blonde guy's direction. It had to be him.

Trusting his accent (if not his height, his hair, or Pukamon) to give him away, Ash cupped his hands around his mouth and called out to the American. "Wallace?"

Wallace had been bored for quite sometime now, Ken had left to help with the Mexico fiasco and left him alone with Gumimon for who knows how long. The ability to meet up with another foreigner who spoke english definently gave him a perk to look forward to, in what could be his final months in Japan.

With the sound of his name being said, Wallace lowered the sunglasses perched on his nose and glanced his icy blue eyes up at the fellow foreigner above him. Even if Ash was a foreigner to Wallace's native country, the english speech and the light hair was enough to give him that little taste of home he so desperately needed.

"Ash right?" He asked, his American accent clearly giving Ash the assurance of his identity. From Ash's face Wallace's eyes fell over at the Pukamon on his shoulder and gave a quick smirk, He knew he should have brought Gumimon, but two guys holding 'adorably cute' plushies might look a little too suggestive.

"It is a pleasure to meet you!"

Right on the first try! Off to a good start. "You too!"

Ash strode a little faster the last few meters to Wallace, and once he got there, he stuck out his hand for a shake. Man, it was nice to not have to bow.

He winced a little at Wallace's smirk, shooting a dirty look Pukamon's way. "Yeah, hope you don't mind a change of plans... I'd rather not be out and about with the little guy."

"You are no fun," sniffed Pukamon, crossing his flippers. The baby glanced over at Wallace with a critical gaze. "I bet I bet you hang out with your partne--"

Ash's eyes widened, and he clapped his free hand over Pukamon's snout. "Do you think anyone heard him?"

Wallace took a brief scan of the surrounding and shrugged slightly as he reached to accept Ash's handshake,

"I don't think anyone heard him, I don't think we need to worry to much right now." Wallace gave his usual cool guy smirk before breaking their friendly hand shake and began to check around for the train.

"So was there anywhere in particular you'd like to go? I really didn't plan much...unfortunately."

Ash smiled sheepishly. "Sorry, I'm a little paranoid. I'm not particularly keen to repeat the 'oh, I do ventriloquism!' performance again."

Pondering, Ash let go of Pukamon to rifle through his schoolbag for the tourist brochure he'd picked up. "Let's see... We can give Tokyo Tower a miss, I mean, I've been up the Metropolitan Government Building. Temples, meh, shrines, meh..."

It felt like something was missing from the brochure, but it took a poke in the head from Pukamon to remember. "Oh, Chichubimi-- er, Chichibuma--"

"Chichibunomiya?" corrected Pukamon, not trying particularly hard to keep the smugness out of his voice."

"That's the one," Ash agreed, with a furtive glance around. "The rugby stadium. D'you think it's open to the public when there isn't a game on?"

Pukamon gave him a familiar look, one that said, 'rugby, Ash? really?'. Oops. Ash tended to forget rugby madness wasn't as, well, mad outside of the UK and the trans-Tasman rivalry. "Wallace, are you into sport? Like, do you go tramping often, or was the the New York-Colorado walk a one-off thing?"

Wallace could only chuckle softly from the exchange between the two partners,

"The walk to New York to Colorado was a one time thing, it was kind of an emergency so..." He continued,

"As for sports, I guess I like football...so I guess rugby's pretty awesome. I'm up for it if you are."

Curious, Ash tilted his head. "What kind of emergency entails a cross-state hike?"

He had to give a bit of a smirk at the football reference, though. "Rugby's much cooler than gridiron football. Maybe you can pass forwards in football, but rugby doesn't have the helmets and all the padding. You have to be much tougher to play rugby."

"Like you'd know," Pukamon smirked, "Mr. I Don't Play Any Sports."

Ash decided to ignore this remark. "Allons-y!"

"Um, just a family emergency is all. Nothing serious." Wallace lied, obviously refering to his loss of Chocomon years prior. An incident he still had not recovered from mentally. To avoid causing an awkward scene it was Wallace's choice to not include such a discussion.

"I don't know much about rugby, but that sounds sorta brutish." Wallace shrugged a nonchalant sigh of confusion before turning to the train.

"I'm ready when you are."

Ash frowned a little at the vague answer, but Wallace obviously didn't want to talk about it, so he let it go and stepped onto the train instead. Picking a window seat, he gestured for Wallace to sit down. "It's only a liiiiittle brutish."

"Which is why he doesn't play it," Pukamon grinned.

"Quiet," muttered Ash, watching other passengers board the train.

Wallace smiled in response. The communication between the two partners reminded him deeply of his relationship with Gumimon.

"Well I guess to each their own, right?" He understood the appeal to something like Rugby, he enjoyed action much like any guy his age would and thus watching a pure action, strategic sport.

"Definitely," Ash agreed. "I'm really more of a water sports person, though I haven't really been out on the water for...a while."

Oops. He hadn't meant to bring that up. Idly, he patted Pukamon's head as he cast about for another conversation topic. "So...what brings you to Japan? I didn't think, what do you call them, seniors usually did exchanges, considering it's the last year."

"Me?" Wallace thought briefly.

"I've been fluent in Japanese since I was about 11, I had a Japanese girlfriend who was an excellent teacher. I also promised some Chosen Children I met in New York I'd visit one day...it all seemed like a good choice."

He continued, "I'm exchanging for a college program that I was able to get into, hmmm, I skipped a grade in my youth so I'm younger than everyone else in my year."

"Lucky you," grinned Ash, "before I came here practically the only Japanese I knew was otaku fangirl stuff my friend shoved down my throat. I guess I really should have gone to class more often."

He took a moment to translate "college" into American, then gasped. "You're in university? I thought you were still in high school!" The grin soon returned, however. "So what are you studying, rocket science?"

"Y'see I was never big with the anime trend." Wallace's eyes drifted to the outside of the train.

"And I'm tecnically not IN university but I do take courses at the level. This year I had enough credits to be able to graduate early due to my grade level, but because the grade level I was in was already older than me I decided to stay back one more year to take on a exchange program to Japan. Get it?"

He laughed slightly, before looking around for their stop. "Do you know how far it is to get there?"

"Hey, I only ever liked Pokemon," Ash defended himself quickly, "I just have a friend - well, and now a host sister - who's nuts."

Unfortunately he couldn't quite follow Wallace's explanation. "Sorry, no, I'm totally confused.

"I looked it up before I came, I think it was somewhere around..." Ash squinted at the signs before finding the English part of the sign. "Oh, this stop!"

"Good timing dude and I'll explain my schooling situation better later." Wallace chimed as he quickly picked up his back near his feet and slung it over his shoulder, The vehicle came to stop with a slight screech declaring the name of their stop sure enough. Wallace guided himself through the hallways past the rows of chairs and exited energetically through the doors. Feeling the breeze again was as much a pleasure as it was a pain.

He turned around to make sure that Ash and Pukamon had exited safely and as they quickly regained themselves the train left the station leaving the two at the gates to maneuver their paths for the selves from now on. Wallace propped on his sunglasses to block the blinding sun and pointed to the direction they should probably head.

"This way, I think this will get us to where we wanna be." Wallace added, "If not we could always come back and try again, I'm in no hurry."

Ash followed Wallace from both the train and the station, and unfolded his sunglasses from his hoodie neckline, pushing them up his nose. He shivered in the wind, wishing he'd thought to bring another jacket, then glanced at the street Wallace was pointing at. From what he could read of the map, it looked vaguely right. "I hope you're right about this, I left my sense of direction in Melbourne."

Wallace crinkled his nose and responded,

"Unfortunately, I left mine in Colorado..." Wallace sighed and adjusted his backpack continuing forward,

"So do you know anything about this place? Any interesting facts?"

"Not a lot, actually..." Ash paused to think for a moment. "The stadium's fifty years old, but they've been modernizing it in the last five years because of the World Cup tournies, and now that New bloody Zealand's hosting the 2011 tournament Japan's the favorite for 2015. Rugby's not all that big here, when I asked most people if they were watching the World Cup their first reaction was 'the what?', but apparently Chichibi-- Chichibunomiya's the spiritual home of rugby union in Japan or something, named after a Japanese prince. I know an Aussie team played Japan here last year, something about an exchange."

Pukamon yawned pointedly. Embarrassed, Ash gave Wallace an awkward smile. "Sorry, am I boring you?"

"Hm." Wallace replied storing it into his memory, "Na, I'm fine. It's interesting to check out things like this."

Wallace knew he wasn't reflecting an appearance of someone who was interested. He smiled brightly and eagerly pushed forward.

"Let's go check it out then!"

Ash appreciated the effort Wallace was making, but he still felt kind of bad. He had a tendency to start rambling whenever the subject of rugby came up. "Is there anywhere you want to go afterwards?"

His dismay was interrupted as the stadium came into view. Chichibunomiya Stadium wasn't as big or flashy as the Telstra Dome in Melbourne, but still, it was the first rugby stadium he'd seen since leaving the country. A wave of nostalgia washed over him as he started walking towards it, eager to see the field--

"Ash, you dork," interrupted Pukamon, "it's closed."

Wallace approached the door and gave them a brief tug, sure enough...closed.

"Well that blows..." He whined giving the door a light nudge with his shoe. He looked at his watch and looked back up at Ash,

"I only checked for the stadium, I have no idea what else is around here...you wouldn't happen to know would you?"

Recovering quickly from the disappointment, Ash grinned and waved the tourist brochure again. "If we stay on the mainland, there's the Wax Museum, and the Trick Art Gallery, no idea what that's about..."

"What's the trick art gallery?" Wallace questioned.

"I have no idea," Ash admitted. "Hang on, I'll check the brochure." He began to flick through the pages. "Come on, where's the English section... Aha! The Trick Art Gallery is--"

Unfortunately he never got a chance to read it, as at that moment, some pop song started playing out of his back pocket. The Australian rolled his eyes. "Sorry, that's my host sister, I have to get that." He retrieved his cellphone, hitting the answer button. "Hello? ... Aoyama. In Minato. ... What do you mean what am I doing here, I'm touristing, duh. ... I'm with this guy Wallace I know from Livejour-- ... Oh, thanks for the warning! ... Okay, fine, I'll get on a train home. ... Yeah, bye."

Hanging up and putting his phone back in his pocket, Ash sighed. "I'm really sorry, Wallace, but I've got to go. Apparently we're going out to dinner tonight for absolutely no reason."

Wallace gave a quick sigh and shrugged,

"That's okay, I guess theres no helping it. We'll check the time for the stadium and see if we can try it again another time okay...sorry."

"Who knows," Ash mused, "this stadium might not be open outside of game times anyway. I know what..."

He held out the Tokyo tourist guide to Wallace with a teasing smile. "You take this. Educate yourself on the tourist side of life, not just the work and classes."

Wallace only response was a brief scratch of his head in embarrassment as he accepted the guide graciously.

"Thanks," he muttered, looking at the pages within. Despite the short trip, it wasn't a waste at all. As Wallace scanned the pages he realized he had made a huge mistake with his stay in Japan. He was so concentrated on his education and making everyone proud he forgot the key point...to enjoy himself. He tried to, but in the end it all went back to classes and work.

It was a recurring part of Wallace's personality, a trip from New York to Colorado was a duty to him...he rarely had time to take the time to smell the roses so to speak. He smiled to Ash courteously and held the guide to his chest.

"Thanks a lot, actually."

Pukamon watched Wallace examining the book, a look of bemusement on his face. "Geeze, it's just a brochure."

"Don't be rude," Ash admonished the baby digimon. Glancing back at Wallace, he had to smile - he'd never admit it, but he kind of agreed with Pukamon. "You're welcome. I think I can make it back to the station on my own, so I guess I'll see you around?"

Wallace looked up for a moment and nodded in agreement. "Ya for sure, I'll see you around. I'm probably gonna look around a bit before I go so..."

Ash gave Wallace a wave, not noticing Pukamon was simultaneously doing the same. "Have fun! Ciao, Wallace."
